Most professional pet sitters in New Zealand didn't get into this work for the title.
They got into it because they genuinely care about the animals, about the families who trust them, and about doing the job properly.
And most of them are already doing all the right things.
They communicate clearly before a booking. They handle animals calmly and without force. They respect the home they've been let into. They know when something is outside their expertise and they say so. They show up the same way whether someone is watching or not.
The problem is that pet owners can't always see that, especially before they've met you. And in a space where anyone can list themselves as a pet sitter, being genuinely professional isn't always enough on its own. You need a way to show it.
What signing the Code actually means
The PSNZ Pet Care Commitment Code is the standard that all PSNZ members commit to. It's not a training course or a test, it's a documented framework that reflects the way trusted, professional pet sitters in New Zealand already think about their work.
It covers force-free handling, client privacy, honest communication, responsible behaviour in public spaces, and genuine care for the animals in your charge. When you sign it as a PSNZ member, you're not learning something new. You're putting your name to the standard you've already set for yourself.
And that matters. Because when a pet owner is choosing who to trust with their dog, their cat, their home, having something concrete to point to gives them the confidence to say yes to you.
The badge that does the talking for you
PSNZ members can display the Pet Care Commitment Code badge on their profile, Google listing, and anywhere else they show up professionally. It tells pet owners immediately that this sitter belongs to a vetted community with a documented standard of care and that they've committed to it in writing.
It's credibility you've already earned, made visible!
If you're a pet sitter in New Zealand doing this work with genuine care and professionalism, you deserve to be recognised for it. PSNZ membership is how you make that happen.
