Tararua District Council: Cat Bylaw
Keeping Cats Except with the approval of Council, no person may keep more than three cats on a Premises. Every cat over six months old must be: a. Microchipped and the cat’s microchip registered with New Zealand Companion Animals Register; and b. Desexed. Clauses 7.1 and 7.2 do not apply to lawfully established vets; or the SPCA or similar registered charities; or lawfully established cat boarding Premises. If, in the opinion of Council, the keeping of cats on a Premises is, or is likely to become a Nuisance, Council may, by written notice, require the number of cats kept on the Premises to be reduced; or take other such precautions as may be considered necessary by Council to reduce the Nuisance effects. It is the duty of the owner or occupier of the Premises to abate the Nuisance as required in the notice within the time period specified in that notice.
Nelson City Council: Cat Bylaw
Any cat over four months of age must be: a. Microchipped and the cat’s microchip registered with the New Zealand Companion Animal Register; and b. Desexed, unless: i. the cat is kept for breeding purposes; and registered with a nationally recognised cat breeders body, or ii. the owner provides a certificate from a registered veterinarian stating that the desexing of the cat will adversely affect its health and/or welfare.
